The Vineyard

Our grapes are grown in a 300-hectare terroir in the heart of the Maule Valley. The vines are planted on sedimentary soils consisting of material from the Andes Mountains that was deposited by its rivers and glaciers.

The Maule Valley is known for having climate conditions that are extremely beneficial for winegrowing: a temperate Mediterranean climate with a dry summer season four to five months long, with a high daily temperature oscillation that is ideal for ripening and concentrating the fruit, and cold, moderately rainy winters with an annual average of 600 mm (24 inches) of precipitation.

These features make the wines of this region distinctive, especially the red varieties, which stand out for their interesting, concentrated aromas and intense color.

The Maule Valley was already known as one of Chile's leading wine-producing zones back in colonial times. Today, with more than two centuries of experience that allows us to combine the best traditions with the most sophisticated technology to ensure the highest standard and finest quality of the wines produced here.

Winery History

The San Vicente Estate, with its imposing 150-year old estate house, was one of the zone's traditional farms. It is situated 11 kilometers east of the city of Talca and its winegrowing history dates back to 1971, when the first blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot were planted on the 46-hectare property.

Over time, new plantations have been added to the original project, and today the property has 40-year old Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Merlot, Malbec, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc vines. These varieties are complemented by another 55 hectares of vines in the Pencahue Valley, closer to the coast and planted primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon, along with some Syrah and Merlot.

For years, the estate's original lands held the secret of the variety that would distinguish Chile and the future of our winery: Carménère.
